The Prescott and Russell Residence Opens Its Doors

The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (the “UCPR”) are proud to announce that the Prescott and Russell Residence Redevelopment Project, launched in 2021, is officially complete and that residents will move into their new living spaces on October 21 and 22, 2026.

“Our teams are mobilized and ready to ensure a safe, coordinated, and comfortable move for all of our residents,” explained Alexandre Gorman, Administrator of the Prescott and Russell Residence. “This is a well-planned logistical operation that will be carried out with care to ensure a smooth and successful transition for everyone.”

The move from the former establishment to the new Prescott and Russell Residence (the “Residence”), located at 900 Spence Street, in Hawkesbury, is a short distance of about 1 km. Residents will be accompanied by healthcare professionals, community partners, and family and friends to support them throughout this important transition.

“Over the past few days, we have received the green light from the Ministry of Long-Term Care confirming that the new Residence and its state-of-the-art facilities are ready to welcome the first residents,” added Stéphane P. Parisien, Chief Administrative Officer of the UCPR. “Our priority has always been to deliver a Residence that offers high-quality living environments and care that exceed industry standards and that is exactly what we have accomplished. This is a major milestone for the largest project ever undertaken by the UCPR.”

“We are extremely pleased to have carried out this project, which is of great importance to our regional community, particularly thanks to the addition of 78 new beds, which will allow us to continue meeting the growing needs of our population,” emphasized Mario Zanth, Warden of the UCPR. “On behalf of the members of the UCPR Council, we wish our residents and their loved ones all the best with the move. We would also like to thank all the staff at the Residence and all our partners who make this possible.”

About the Prescott and Russell Residence Redevelopment Project

The Prescott and Russell Residence is a bilingual specialized long-term care home, managed by the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, offering a range of personalized care services focused on the community’s needs, all within a healthy and safe living environment.

In February 2021, the Prescott and Russell Residence Redevelopment Project was launched to replace and modernize the old facility located at 1020 Cartier Boulevard, in Hawkesbury, which opened in the fall of 1978. The new building, located at 900 Spence Street, in Hawkesbury, provides 78 more beds, bringing its total capacity to 224 beds. Representing an investment of $93 million, the project is supported by the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care, the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure, and the United Counties of Prescott and Russell.

With a total area of 193,000 square feet, the new Residence features a central courtyard, interior courtyards, and large windows that let in plenty of natural light. The common areas include a large multi-purpose hall, welcoming dining rooms, landscaped outdoor spaces, a beauty salon, as well as standard, semi-private, and private rooms.
New workspaces and state-of-the-art equipment ensure that staff can offer quality care in a safe environment. Care stations have been set up at the entrance to each of the seven living areas to better meet the residents’ needs. In addition, extra space has been allocated beyond the minimum standards to facilitate the Residence’s daily activities and operations.
