Daniel Lafleur to Serve as Warden

At the annual swearing-in ceremony held earlier this evening, Mr. Daniel Lafleur, Mayor of the Municipality of Casselman, was elected by acclamation as the 2022 Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR).

As a retired businessman, a community leader, and, since 2018, a politician, Warden Lafleur will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this prestigious position. His candidacy was first proposed by Mr. François St-Amour, Mayor of The Nation Municipality, then seconded by Mr. Robert Kirby, Mayor of the Township of East Hawkesbury.

For his year at the head of the Council, Warden Lafleur confirmed that he would prioritize the construction of the new Prescott and Russell Residence, the implementation of the Prescott and Russell Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, and regional economic development.

"It is with great honour, pride, and humility that I accept to take on the role of Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell for the important year ahead. As we continue to live with the consequences and uncertainties of this pandemic, I am committed to working persistently for the good of all our residents," said Warden Lafleur, during his speech. "I look forward to carrying on with the work on the many regional priorities, while continuing to promote unity within the Council and advocate for regional interests."

During the evening, outgoing Warden Stéphane Sarrazin had the opportunity to donate $18,500 to various community organizations in the region. This year, Mr. Sarrazin chose to offer $2,500 to the Prescott-Russell Autism Group, $2,500 to the Youth Softball League of the Wendover Optimist Club, $2,500 to Soccer Pro17, $2,500 to the Scouts of the 58th Group of Fournier, $2,500 to Pumas Volleyball, $2,000 to the Snowsuits initiative of the Alfred Optimist Club, $2,000 to the 2804 Cadets of Casselman, and $2,000 to the Clarence-Rockland Ringette Association. These funds were raised as part of the Warden's Golf Tournament in August and the Warden's Banquet in November, two events that were held during Mr. Sarrazin's term and which were very successful.
