Leadership féminin Prescott-Russell (LFPR), with the support of all local municipalities and the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR), is offering a set of tools specifically for women who are interested to run in this fall’s municipal elections.
On April 9th, April 23rd, and May 7th, the population of Prescott and Russell will benefit from three free virtual sessions aimed at encouraging women of the region interested in getting involved in municipal politics to make it happen. Women wishing to register or to learn more about this initiative can visit the LFPR organization’s website.
“Knowing that women currently represent 51% of the population in Prescott and Russell, but only occupy 21% of available seats on municipal councils, it is crucial to encourage more women to get involved in municipal politics,” said Daniel Lafleur, Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell.
In addition to these sessions, LFPR has also created a series of five videos aimed at promoting parity within municipal councils. In these videos, it is possible to hear from several spokespersons advocating for parity and diversity in municipal politics, including Diane Choinière, Councillor of the City of Clarence-Rockland, Danik Forgues, Councillor of The Nation Municipality, Paula Assaly, Mayor of the Town of Hawkesbury, Mario Zanth, Mayor of the City of Clarence-Rockland, and Violaine Tittley, Councillor of the Township of Champlain.
