The temporary interruption of PR Transpo’s intermunicipal transit service, which was scheduled to end on February 12th, will now be extended until June 5, 2023, inclusively.
This period of inactivity is necessary to both address the staff challenges that have resulted in the interruption of the service and to assess various options for improving the performance and efficiency of the rural transportation system.
“The interruption of PR Transpo is far from an ideal situation and significantly impacts the users of the service who must use alternative means of transportation,” explained Warden Normand Riopel. “However, as a regional government, we have a responsibility to ensure the efficient and responsible delivery of all municipal services. In this case, a pause is necessary to resolve operational issues that prevent us from delivering the service adequately.”
PR Transpo is a pilot project that was launched by the United Counties of Prescott and Russell in 2018 with financial support from the Community Transportation Grant Program. Although PR Transpo started out as a traditional fixed-route service, users have benefitted from an on-demand service since June 2021. To date, PR Transpo’s on-demand service has made 6,167 trips and served 234 users.
